NEW! -  #RTHD5MH - Medium Hosaluk Spear

People have been asking me for something to create a heavier line & now, here

it is. This is good for general pyrography, feathers & hair detailing, undercutting, embellishing or decorating.

Designed by renowned wood turner Michael Hosaluk. Mike uses this tip to burn defining lines on his wood turnings. It's unique design gives a heavier line & gives the tip more strength than thinner tips.

You can find the new pen on the General purpose pen page.

For an even broader line check out the Wide-Groove Detail tip (aka "V" tip) on the Specialty pen page.

Well, it's been over 12 years since Razertip has raised it's prices but I received notification yesterday that effective 1/1/16 there will be a price increase on these items:

Razertip pens, tips & cords ($1.00 each)
Razaire accessories (price will vary)

Burners will remain the same BUT if you purchase a burner that comes packed with pens/cords the price will be increased by the price of the pens & cords

NEW BURNER OPTIONS: I have been asked if I would stock some burners without pens or cords so people can customize what they order so I will be offering burners "a la carte". You pick out the burner & then order what you want. There will not be a price difference it just means you get to choose which pen(s) & cord(s) come with your burners.
You will still be able to order them packed as they always have & the starter kits as they have been offered but now you can buy the burner packed to your specifications.

Over the last 15 years I have found that people like having the starter kits already picked out for them (& obviously other dealers have too so they have all been offering starter kits) BUT what I also discovered that some people prefer all HD cords with the Dual Output or a different pen with the burner (such as gourders, turners, carvers) so this will give you more flexibility.

RAZERTIP NEWS: With the closing of Burnmaster & Nibsburner, Razertip has picked up Woodcraft as a new dealer. Cam has been very selective of new dealers he's accepting because he wants to ensure that the dealers they have are reflective of the way they do business. He has assured me that all their old dealers (that's us) should not feel threatened by Woodcraft as new dealers because we will continue to get orders in a timely manner, quality control & customer service will remain 1st rate & since Woodcraft never discounts anything they will not be competing with those of us who do offer discounts on all Razertip products.

Also...there is some very exciting news coming from Razertip in the spring. I can't spill the beans yet because the debut of the new product(s) are not sealed in stone yet but Cam & I chatted at great length yesterday & he told me all about them. VERY EXCITING for pyrographers. According to Cam these are years in the making & state of the art equipment. They will be available to select dealers for testing before release to the public & I can't wait to put them through their paces.

All I can say now is...don't ask because I can't tell but I assure you that there are some of you out there that are going to be VERY excited!

I assure you that when these products are available for sale to the general public I will be letting you all know.

Fair use & copyright guidelines for crafters & hobbyist's

It's been a long time coming but I have added a new page in the tutorials section on my website. From the first when I started the tutorials I addressed the issue of copyright but it was buried within the tutorials & not easy to find. So I have created a separate page which will be easier to find. I have also added a lot of new information & links to valuable resources.

One reason I did it is because there are so many newcomers out there who might not have a clue about copyright & fair use laws. So I hope this will be helpful to you. Keep in mind that this is NOT legal advise but should be used as a guide for you.

Trung Nghia's Passion

Two years ago a lady from Florida wanted to buy a burner & some other items
for her brother in Vietnam. I arranged to have a Razertip burner shipped to her & she sent it to him but I had no idea what type of art he was doing.

Last week I got an email from her wanting to order 2 more burners. Now I was really getting curious but moments later I got another email from her with photos of his work along with a video & his portfolio explaining his passion. I was amazed & wanted to share it.

The young man's name is Trung Nghia & I hope you enjoy seeing his work as much as I do.

He uses fire, smoke, gunpowder & a Razertip burner to create his magnificent art work. His work is unique & passionate & what is more is that he is using the very mediums that cause destruction to give back to the world in the beauty & passion of his work.

I am attaching his You Tube video here so you can see how he creates his work. There is no narration but you will see his passion & his reason for his passion & how it so reflected so much in his work. He is a very talented young man who has transferred his passion to his "canvas" with each masterpiece he creates.

If you are interested in Contact Trung Nghia you can him directly (he is NOT fluent in English) or his sister who lives in the Unites States:

Pyrography-Gourd-Art Group is now on Facebook

The Pyrography Gourd Art group that I started on Yahoo back in 2003 has grown to over 900 members. It has been a place where people from around the globe can come to learn & share information in a friendly environment. Members have started albums & shared their work & it has been a great group for over 12 years.

I have watched over the last couple of years how the Yahoo groups have had a decline in interest & growth. Not just ours but most of them. Facebook groups have been gaining in popularity by leaps & bounds. It is because people can connect with people easier & share information almost immediately with Facebook. So, it's no surprise that Yahoo groups are becoming a thing of the past...sort of like a dinosaur. For a long time people have asked me to start the group in Facebook but I have avoided Facebook for years due to all the issues with privacy (or lack of).
Now that I have finally decided to join Facebook & even have a page for Sawdust Connection people have asked when I would move the group to Facebook. I will not close the Yahoo group (at least not yet) because people still enjoy posting but I have decided to add a group on Facebook with the same name that has also been used for this blog.
I look forward to having some of the members join us here & just 10 minutes after launching the group & sending out a notice the requests to join have already started coming in.
Look for my familiar signature logo seen on the Pyrography-Gourd-Art group on Yahoo, my website, the Sawdust Connection Facebook page & of course here.

Hey, if I can finally get on Facebook & start a group you need to come join me too!

We're Back in Texas

We are back in Texas "permanently". We are living in our motorhome now but our house is being built as I am writing this. If all goes well & there's no delays due to weather the house should be done by the end of July.

If you are interested in seeing the progress you can check it out in my personal blog.

Our Personal Blog

Once our house is finished we will start moving things from our storage unit into the house. During this time I will remain open & doing business as usual...maybe just a little bit slower!

If there are any changes in the plans I will post it on the website.

Thank you for your patience while we were in transition last month while we were packing up the house in NM & moving to TX.

New Applicator & Brush Sampler Packs

I have been selling Microbrush Sampler Packs for many years but after many
Add caption
requests I started putting together other sampler packs.

During busy times of the year or when there is a refund due for excess shipping & handling that was small I included a gift worth what the refund would have been or more. When the order was for paint, dyes, etc I started including an applicator sampler pack. Several people commented on what a nice idea that was & suggested I make them available for purchase.

So, I have put together the basic Sampler Pack & then added another one that includes some additional brushes & the Fine Line Fiber Applicator.

These are now available on my website on the Applicator & Brushes page. These packs contain some of the most popular applicators & brushes I personally use & sell. Included are detail brushes that are great for very fine detail work.

Fine Liner Fiber Applicators

I just received notice that my order of the Fine Liner Fiber Applicators has finally
Fine Liner Fiber Applicator

My distributor has been out of stock for a bit but the shipment is on it's way & is due here on 1/12/15.
Using it on a gourd

For those of you who love the other great applicators we carry & haven't tried these you will really love these. Like the Microbrush & Taklon brushes you can wash these with soap & water & re-use them. The nice part of these is that you don't have to worry about breaking any of the bristles or having them lose their shape because the brush is actually a polyester fiber.

The photo on the left was done on a gourd using Memories dye inks. These will work with most mediums including inks, acrylic & oil paint & even the heat-activated stamp & stick glue for precision lines.

When changing colors I keep a box of baby wipes (non-alcoholic) & wipe the applicator to remove the excess ink or paint. I can use other colors & when I'm finished for the day I wash it gently with mild soap & water & allow to dry.

If you haven't tried these yet you really will love them!

Update: These are now back in stock!

Happy New Year To All Of You

Well, this is the start of a new year & I hope all of you have had a wonderful Christmas & New Years. I hope that 2015 brings everyone happiness, good health & prosperity.
Happy New Year!

This was our first year back in Texas for the holidays. I had no idea what to expect in terms of managing the holiday sales working from our RV & coach house. Typically Christmas is busy but having a real house with all my inventory in one place & a shipping center in the garage it's usually very manageable & organized. Working out of our motorhome & our little coach house was certainly going to make it challenging but it didn't seem to slow me down...too much!

My inventory, shipping boxes & supplies are spread out in the motorhome, car & in the coach house. My office is in the coach house so it really kept me hopping. Al was wonderful driving over to the shipping center every day dropping off all the boxes. In some cases when we had express shipments he also had to drive to FedEx but he didn't complain. To say that I was exhausted by Christmas eve is putting it mildly. Besides having more hurdles to jump just to get orders out, we were shipping more orders than ever before so things really got exciting around here!

Every Christmas I always tell Razertip that it amazes me that there are still people left in the world that don't have a woodburner yet & they say the same thing. This year was different because it was the best year Razertip & I have ever experienced just in Razertip sales. They have been around over 25 years & I have been selling Razertip for over 12 years & we both have never experienced as many Razertip burners flying out the door as this year between November & December than any other year since we have both been in business. It was an amazing holiday season trying to keep up with the orders. Because I didn't have the room to store as many burners this year due to lack of storage space. So, starting the end of October I was getting shipments from Razertip every week so I could keep ahead of the orders. I did finally run out of single output burners the day before Christmas but thank god another shipment arrived on Monday so all those people who didn't get one for Christmas wouldn't have to wait more than an extra day to get one. Even after Christmas I was getting calls to ship some Express mail.

It really is mind boggling how the interest in Pyrography just keeps growing but I am surely not going to complain. I'm thrilled that so many people are interested in learning Pyrography all around the globe. Although I don't ship Razertip outside of the USA Razertip does drop ship for me if there is no dealer in a particular country & it amazes me the places I get orders from. Some of which I have to look up on Google just to find out where it is.

it's obvious to all of us that Pyrography & Razertip tools are very popular.

Razertip took a week off to rest & recuperate from working long days & lots of over time & I took a few days off & now we are all ready to start off the new year rested & ready to go.

So, I want to thank all of you for making this Holiday season the best ever!
